Why do some men treat women so badly?

@puck61: can I just add the guy that treated me badly treated everyone around him well. Kids, animals and the elderly.
When I talk to other people about him they always jump to his defense claiming that he is a really caring generous and understanding guy. And don't understand why I would make up such lies about him.
It effectively made me look like a crazy person.
