You can consider the possibility of him coming back, but it wouldn't make sense for him to come back to you in this current state. You should use this time to further develop yourself as an individual.

@WiseValentine: It can last forever, if you let it be so. There is no 'should', you can afford to give yourself time to deal with it emotionally, but you'll reach a point where nothing else can be done. Thats when you take a step back and evaluate your actions, emotions and decide how exactly you wish to move.
Ive used this analogy quite a lot. Problem with people is when faced with darkness, they tend to shut their eyes. Giving up on movement altogether. If only they opened their eyes, they'd notice the outlines and the path. No matter what you do, don't avoid your feelings.
