In my experience couples, no matter how close, find it hard to chat to each other about securing a future together. Fears that the other person will feel pressurised, or thoughts like "he doesn't own me" or issues of personal freedom, can intervene. If you feel that you can't envisage a happy future without him, try to find light-touch ways of bringing the future into the conversation. Not obsessively so; in one sense the present is all we have.
