It's probably not very common, among the number of people on any one site.
Since the conversations on a site like SW are between strangers and we all hide behind nick-names, we don't form real relationships as in real life.
So if someone blocks us, it may be disappointing, we even might feel insulted, but there is little point fretting about it.
Sometimes the block is baffling. You see occasional questions plaintively asking, "Why have I been blocked?" part-way through what seemed to have been a quite ordinary conversation.
Sometimes it is the last resort of a bully who has failed to make you submit and adopt his or her belief.
Occasionally, especially in the latter case, it might even be a blessed relief.
I have been blocked by a few. The daftest perhaps was someone Extremely Annoyed by my revealing a friend who had been ordained into the clergy happens to be female. Why daft? The blocker was not some miserable old male mysogynist but a woman herself!

@ArishMell I bet I know who that was. If you disagree with her on anything spiritual, you get blocked!

@NoGamesTolerated I forget who it was. It happened a couple of years ago now anyway.

Happened to me here. A friend who I thought was close to me and who I had been very supportive of started to exclude me and act like they don't want to be friends anymore. They haven't said it directly, but their actions make it clear. When I asked about our friendship, they insisted that we were still friends, but that’s a pretty shitty way to treat someone you say as your friend

Sounds like head games or manipulation and emotional immaturity. But some have avoidant issues.

Some people act without thinking. They enjoy the drama of the moment and the temporary empowerment they gain from cutting someone out of their life.
And then they suffer the consequences of their own poorly thought out actions.

Spot on
id guess its a case of wanting something or someone, but knowing it/they aren't good or right for purpose.

These are random strangers on the Internet, not a real-life community.

Because people are insane.

Unless some people take connections off line here to in person or phone or email or FaceTime or some combination this is not at all real.
