If it was a serious relationship with marriage in the picture, breaking up is usually the better choice if you have decided you want to maintain a close relationship with your family. Friction between family and a spouse is a miserable situation for everyone. Consider what you'd be subjecting your fiance to; stress, embarrassment, arguments, etc. If you plan to be in touch with your family, regularly seeing them, and you are dating in order to find a mate, do not date those your family doesn't like. It's a waste of time.
