Is it possible to misunderstand care for aggressive control?

If a person slowly erodes your confidence in your ability to make safe decisions, is it controlling?
If a person makes frequent jokes about you better not having the opposite gender in your home, is it a threat?
If a person demands intel on your day to day movements whilst briefly detailing theirs, does that mean they don't trust you?
If a person refuses to introduce you to friends and family does that mean they are waiting for the right moment?

These types of people are called psychopaths but they are so many in number that we have excused it for euphemism caring attitude.

Good people like you feel guilty about pushing them away because they are caring for you but I've had many such people in my life and everytime I've thrown them out it has been a good riddance
