Is it possible to misunderstand care for aggressive control?

If a person slowly erodes your confidence in your ability to make safe decisions, is it controlling?
If a person makes frequent jokes about you better not having the opposite gender in your home, is it a threat?
If a person demands intel on your day to day movements whilst briefly detailing theirs, does that mean they don't trust you?
If a person refuses to introduce you to friends and family does that mean they are waiting for the right moment?

It's quite possible.
After getting away from my abusive boyfriend I spoke with a girl about how the boy treated me while we were together.
She sighed dreamily and said...
I want to find a guy like that.

What you listed is chock full of insecurity from the person.
