Is monthly anniversary gifts over-doing it?

1 month anniversary gift
2 month anniversary gift

I see this on my FB and I'm like 🤷‍♀️

Gonna have to take a trip overseas for the 1 yr anniversary to top all that lol

It's total bullshit.

Half the things we celebrate socially have been commercially introduced to train us to buy shit .

Like diamond engagement rings....used to be any ring....De Beers ran an ad campaigne for a while...and now - we all think it's tradition .

@BoobooSnafu right and true romance is not about spending money on gifts, it’s about spontaneous ways you show that you care about the person.
@cherokeepatti amen to that.👍

Heart felt is the KEY thing here .

Not...advertiseing pressured me to show my affection for you 😁

@BoobooSnafu What was romance before $ came into the picture? Consideration & attention to the other person Picking a handful of flowers, making a special meal, sweet words of love, going for picnics and doing things together that both loved to do. I wish that would come back into style instead of buying stuff and going into debt.
@cherokeepatti ahhh, memories of a sweeter world . Where one was encouraged by affection and love, not prizes and status.

You're so right. In fact - too many relationships have been destroyed by financial strife...that could have been avoided if people chose to ignore "what is popular"

I mean SHIT!...some weddings these days send grooms bankrupt!
I see catalogues for updating your lounge furniture for spring !

DAFUQ!!!

And saddest of all, people working so hard to stay up with the Joneses next door- they don't see their kids grow up.

So fucked up 🤦‍♀️

@BoobooSnafu true. People used to live within their means and not get into credit-card hell debt.. Now every holiday, every event, and every anniversary requires a purchase to keep up with it all. Like my friend said when she came to the USA in the late 70’s people were content to give or receive a plate of homemade cookies for a gift, it was the thought and effort that counted. Now it’s gifts that take a good chunk of change.

@cherokeepatti I think I'd be happier with a homemade/handmade gift
@cherokeepatti aye .
The world is losing its heart.

And you're right- youde bake a cake for new neighbours , andn it was a reason to sit down and have a cuppa and actually 'meet each other.

Now it's all damn 'virtual hugs' and crap.
I sometimes wonder what this path will take humanity to.

I mean, think about it....smart phones...a world of easy international communication and accumulated knowledge.:
...and we talk less , know less, and are more isolated than ever.

That makes NO SENSE !!!

@BoobooSnafu As introverted as I am, I miss being around people who don’t live here in my house. I want to talk to neighbors, and people at yard sales, and strike up chats with random people in grocery stores, go to a garden center or flea market and talk about seeds & plants, listen to some guys shoot the breeze at the lake or whatever. This has gotten old. I don’t think it’s all about social distancing & wearing a mask to stay safe, they want to stop us from communicating with each other...distancing us from others we may see occasionally and randomly.

@iamnikki I would too, it would be more meaningful and if the relationship lasted it would become something I’d hang on to for life.
