I resisted at first. So did she. We first met autumn of 2018 at grad school in Washington. Two young officers, me Navy, her Air Force. Both committed to not letting relationships alter our plotted courses. We had studies to complete, careers to launch. But the gravity was there from the start so we hung out.
We dated others in order to prevent our paths from becoming too entangled. But the gravity remained and it was strong.
Thankfully, school ended and she returned to Texas while I prepared to go to sea. The separation helped but the forces of nature cannot be denied.
We made plans to see each other New Years Eve 2019 before I shipped out. Like a rubber band that had been stretched too far, we came together in an explosion of forces. You might have thought those were New Years fireworks.
She's taller than me by a few inches with longer and darker hair. Thinner too, but not skinny, just a different kind of fitness, leaner. She gets me in so many ways. We share an innate sarcasm that we both use to survive in this crazy nonsensical world. She calms me with just a touch. And excites me with the next. She is focused, driven, intelligent, and believes as I do in a life of service.
My friends here call her FlyGirl. 🙂
