What do you know or learned about married life?

Hard conversations must happen. Communication is the key. Oh...and fall in love with your spouse every day...even when they piss you off.

Communication is key. Pick and choose your battles. Make sure you have the same goals, life outlook, and moral compasses. Compromise is usually necessary and can occur at any given moment. Laugh, laugh, then laugh together some more. The smallest nicety should be noted. Hug, kiss, hold hands as often as possible. Don't take each other for granted.

Getting help through counseling can make an incredible difference in communication by creating a safe place and better techniques to listen and talk.

Forever is a long time

Don’t do anything with the intention of hurting your spouse.
When you do hurt your spouse, albeit unintentionally, apologize immediately and sincerely.

That it cannot succeed without continual work on learning better communication skills.

As I've been married for 60 years.....quite a lot, the highs and lows

I learned that when I said I do I would have said I don't if I would have just knew how saying I do was going to screw up the rest of my life!
