Some suggestions:

1. Pick a dating site that is consistent with what you are looking for. I was looking for a relationship, not a hookup, so I was on Match.com and OK Cupid and steered clear of sites like Tinder. Match.com is better at getting you access to more local people, but you learn less about them from their profiles. OK Cupid has people from all over the country and world -- its up to you to set the screen for people whose profiles are for you -- but I found there were relatively few in my local area. But OK Cupid, will potentially give you tons more information about its members from the questions they answer, which feeds into an algorithm designed to at least give you first cut at how well you are compatible with someone else.

2. If you are serious, don't waste your time with the people who are not. People with free subscriptions to dating sites tend not to be as committed to the process.

3. When I was dating, I preferred to meet people sooner, rather than later, because sometimes in person the chemistry is just not there. That isn't an option now, at least in some parts of the country. There is a great article in the today's NYTimes, titled "How Coronavirus is Changing the Dating Game for the Better". It is written by the Chief Science Advisor for Match.com. You can find it at https://nyti.ms/2W8vPem, but you may have to have a subscription to access it.

4. Finally, if you have been out of the dating game a long time, you might want to read "Wired for Dating: How Understanding Neurobiology and Attachment Style Can Help You Find Your Ideal Mate" It give insight as to what makes people -- including you -- tick as you enter and pursue the dating process. The idea is to help people avoid making the same relationship mistakes over and over.

Hope some of this is helpful.

@Niloo You are welcome. Good luck, follow the good suggestions here for protecting your own personal safety, and don't lose your sense of humor. I went back into the dating world in my 50s after nearly three decades out and had enough material for a stand up routine, based on my experiences.
