Attractive?

When he tells you you are attractive or (very) but not pretty or beautiful...what does this mean?
Men: is it just an adjective?
Woman: do you find it insulting?

pretty is a little less unapproachable

attractive is like Mary Ann on Gilligan's island. approachable and good looking - and you wouldn't be afraid to ask them out
