When he tells you you are attractive or (very) but not pretty or beautiful...what does this mean? Men: is it just an adjective? Woman: do you find it insulting?

@kyredhead pretty is not used for little girl. Pretty is also used to compliment a stranger. I wont tell a stranger I think she is beautiful, but sometimes I have the courage to say i think she is pretty. So I hate to disagree.
