Attractive?

When he tells you you are attractive or (very) but not pretty or beautiful...what does this mean?
Men: is it just an adjective?
Woman: do you find it insulting?

I would say most girls are pretty or beautiful due to their looks.
But my interpretation of attractive is their appearance and attitude .
