Yes, definitely, many can and do, but we need perhaps to take a big step back before judging this - love can take many forms.. in all likelihood there IS love, just not sexual love.. or romantic love..
I've communicated with many married men in my time.. most will say they love their wife and would never want to leave her... but they miss sex, want and desire sex and are miserable without it..sometimes they will call that love.. it's only one form of love.

Sure, people can make each other miserable until death if they want to. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s not recommended though.
