How not to treat your wife: Lesson 2. 😁
I did come out on top occasionally.
The procedure my wife underwent for her sinus condition involved taking her eye out of it's socket and making a long incision all the way from the top of her nose towards the side of her mouth. The sinus canal would then be thoroughly cleaned out the incision stitched and her eye popped back in.
And of course it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for a prank.
She looked a right mess when I walked in but that was far too easy a target. Her face was swollen and bruised and her eye was bloodshot but at least she recognised me so it was pretty obvious that given a few weeks she'd look right as rain.
I gave her a peck on her other cheek (I'm not totally insensitive!) told her how well she was looing and gave the obligatory present. (see Lesson 1)
And we settled down for a chat. I told her how the kids were, and that I'd fed myself as well this time, when something about her appearance suddenly caught my eye and I told her to look straight ahead so I could get a better look.
"What's up?", she asked nervously.
"I'm not sure.", I said as I looked first into one eye then the other the expression on my face one of growing concern.
I held up three fingers...
"How many fingers am I holding up?", I asked.
"Three", she said.
Not at all convinces I looked around the ward and asked her to read the sign above the door.
"Ward 6", she said.
"Oh for f*ck's sake..." was all I could manage to get out.
"WHAT'S UP!" she demanded obviously pretty scared.
"I'm sure it's nothing to worry about", I said "but you're in Ward 9. I think they've put your eye back in upside down.".
The nurses were called and everyone frantically gathered round for a look.
"Gotcha", I whispered, as I gave her another peck on the cheek and wandered off to find a coffee machine.
Wife: 1
Husband: 1
