How do you get over a lover you thought was the one but never worked out?

I want a life long relationship but it doesn’t work out for me... should I be like the rest of you and roll the dice? Pretend it’s forever even though I know it won’t be... I know a forever relationship and a long term relationship I can ‘sense’ the difference psychically
