Am I over reacting?

I sent the guy I’m talking to a birthday gift and card as a surprise, because he is over seas right now. I wrote in his birthday card some sweet things. He got it today and sent a picture of it letting me know he received it. Then told me how his friend saw it and asked about the nickname I wrote in it. That’s all. Then he changed the subject. Didn’t say thank you, didn’t say he liked it, didn’t say he was surprised or that it was sweet of me. Nothing. So when I asked do u like it? All he responded was, “I’ll use it next week to celebrate”. (It’s a shot glass) Then he changed the subject. And then I replied your welcome. And he just replied thank you... now he’s asking why I’m upset and I told him that I feel unappreciated and dumb for sending anything and he says that no the only dumb thing is that I’m mad because his reaction isn’t how I envisioned it would be..but he didn’t even HAVE a reaction or say anything about it other than that he got it. Am I over reacting? Idk to me it seems rude and ungrateful.

Expecting a lil appreciation and/or acknowledgement, is not an unrealistic expectation and that "envisioned" line was the icing on the cake.

You can do better.

Right? Thank you! That’s how I feel. @LucyFuhr

@Moraguea That's what self respect feels like!

He's kind of being a dick, but I would try and move past it if everything else is going OK. Refusing to thank your SO for a gift is really strange and bad. Maybe chalk it up to shitty mood from traveling?
Moraguea · 26-30, F
He says it’s his shitty mood cu he is miserable over there, but u would think receiving a surprise like that would lighten the mood and at least a nice acknowledgment @BlueVeins
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Moraguea Yeah, I'd say maybe just pull back for a little while, give him time to think about what he's said, and hopefully he'll apologize. If you really like this guy and his bad behavior is due to shitty temporary circumstances, it might be best to look the other way this once, but it's obviously not preferable.
Moraguea · 26-30, F
I agree thanks! @BlueVeins

english · 56-60, M
this is 50 50, he could have been more thankful, but it is true that you were expecting more, not many men jump up and down over gifts, thats your job .🤔
Moraguea · 26-30, F
All I needed was acknowledgment@english
english · 56-60, M
@english Is that really true only acknowledgment ,thats not quite what you said in post. anyway you guys will get past this wont you.🤔
Chaoshead · 22-25, M

At the very least he should have said “thank you so much for sending me this. What a wonderful surprise.”
Moraguea · 26-30, F
Exactly! That’s all I wanted @SW-User

hami1091 · 41-45, F
Why is he overseas?
R5000 · 41-45, M
You are overreacting
PirateMonkeyCabinet · 36-40, M
You sacrificed your time, effort and from the sound of it money as well to do something special for him. That warrants at least a little bit of appreciation. Doesn't matter if he intends to use the gift or not, whether he likes the actual gift or not, he should show some gratitude that you were willing to do it for him.

He is indeed being rude and ungrateful.
Moraguea · 26-30, F
Exactly how I feel, like at least acknowledge my effort @PirateMonkeyCabinet
