What makes a couple married

Is it the piece of paper? The authority of the minister, judge etc...The vows voiced out loud? Or something else entirely?

That's wedding.. and not all wedded couples are said to be married.. for marriage is something that happens over time..

And there are many who are married but not wedded..

Like a kidney transplant.. the kidney is wedded inside.. but if the body agrees then its as good as natiral else the kidney has to he separated..
