depends how new "new" is, and how much money it is.
@clooo It's like 10 pounds here and there for groceries and that. He recently just lost his job for a silly reason.

@lauriethecolourful That doesn't seem too unreasonable, but if it were me, i wouldn't do it unless the relationship was either at least a few months old, or i was already friends with them before.
@justanothername At a staff party AT his work (he was a bar man) he poured himself a drink and that's a big no no apparently. They didn't tell anyone that before, though.

In that case they should have given him a warning. Did he know that he wasn’t allowed to do that?

@justanothername That's what I said, too. He didn't know. He knew he wasn't supposed to when we was working there, but not at a staff party in the bar.

The company could also be at fault for allowing an employee to work behind the bar at a staff function. Normally a company would use contract catering to provide the good and alcohol so that employees are not put in compromising situations.
