Would u be bothered if ur partner treated u differently in front of people to when ur alone?

My ex... he was all about me when alone, but he wud hardly hold my hand in public. Once we were in a shopping mall & was all over me but once we bumped into friends he stepped away by a few feet away! Our friends knew we were together...

Why do some act different when alone then different with others?
