My boyfriend wants to go separate on our family’s presents

Hi my boyfriend and I always gone halves on birthday presents he now said this year due to money reasons he only wants to do his own family with being too many birthdays in a year I haven’t got a big family and he hasn’t.
I don’t get lot of money ether We never ask to pay much for presents thought that counts,
something like we go 5 pound each he has enough to live off to get his monthly beers and we go places ,
he has his own place as well do understand the bills and stuff , am I being unreasonable for wanting to still go halves, also he wants to put our names on it even though we wouldn’t be contributing to each other’s presents for our family’s I get he hates birthdays but why ??
