I'm in exactly the same place. I've always been an introvert and a loner, but recognize I'm built for social engagement no less than anyone else. There's a calling in me experience close social connection. But it's hard to find, even when I put myself out there and mingle with people (which isn't that easy for me to do). But I try.

My daughter who is 22 just made friends this year.She never had lasting true friends.Shes not into typical kid stuff like drinking.She found older friends,more mature.

You just gotta put yourself out there. Find activities or hobbies you enjoy that involve other people.

I have very few friends IRL and like it that way tbh. Having a large friendship group is not always a good thing and certainly not a reflection on your own life.
