In a modern Western society it seems less and less necessary. And for males in particular there seems to be less and less of an Up side. I would be interested in male thoughts on that.

@whowasthatmaskedman The upside is the same there ever was. If you want to have a real family, that’s generally the necessary step.

@whowasthatmaskedman Sorta. Single parenthood sucks and everyone realizes this. It’s generally an accidental state.
And in committed relationships, marriage is a hedge against the inevitable career sacrifices one parent tends to have to make.
Basically the benefit remains the same as always - good smart women rarely want to have children without protections of marriage. So men who want to have families with women of quality get married.
