Please don't mistake this for cynicism, but the phrase is very romanticized - not everyone can be Shrek & Fiona or Gable & Lombard!
Life & love are a journey - is anything predestined or fated? There's a lot of questions involved with your question. For me personally, I try to live in the moment (literally!) and appreciate where I am, who I'm with and what I'm doing! It's not always easy...but it works!
