Does real love really exist?

I've been wondering... If I really love a person, I would only want the best for them, right? So, if they tell me that they found someone new who is better for them than I am, I should be absolutely happy for them as I would only want the best. Truth is, I would be absolutely heartbroken and NOT happy for them. Did I really love that person then? Or did I love a potential and only became attached?

Yes, unfortunately it seems to be that those who feel it deeply always manage to end up mismatched with those who do not or cannot do like wise, instead of being paired with people who fit with their respective mindsets, funny how that manages to happen so often. There are people who love and can't even be honest about it out of fear, etc, things are always off somehow. Wish more would just come out and speak their true hearts, and also that others would be receptive to that or at least more accepting or tolerant of it.
