Why would a guy not delete his ex-girlfriend's number and list her as 'serpent,' in his contacts?

I kept my ex's contacts (all of them) until I lost my phone. It didn't mean anything, I didn't want to be caught off guard by sudden ex's call with no heads up.

Not really. At most I wanted one to call me to get back together to have the satisfaction of "No way in hell"+end call, but no. Also in my dating days girls would like to see how you added them in the phone, to see if you gave them a cheesy nickname, the real name would get you at least some frowny face, but something like "snake" would be unforgivable :))
