Apparently no one has a clue what closure actually is.

It is ending the relationship with an explanation.

I realize, in today's society, we have decided that no one should take personal responsibility for themselves..but really...they should.

Ending a relationship like an adult IS CLOSURE.

Ending it by simply ending communication and disappearing off the face of the earth is cowardly and childish.

Most normal human beings with any ounce of emotion can grasp that this can be difficult to get past when you have been left by someone you put your trust in. Someone you spent your life with... your time...you gave them your love and care. This is not some fatal flaw in you if you have a hard time moving on and forward because some coward was unable to face his responsibility to end the relationship properly. It is normal to want the ending to be without questions. To want to not be held by a string of hope. These are the things that are being talked about when someone says they need closure.
