Do long distance relationships work?

They can work. You want proof? My parents have been married for 22 years and they met online. They work, provided people are committed and eventually meet up in person.

They MAY work as a temporary stage, and not always even so.
Sometimes, like in my experience, and despite of a passionate and deep love, the assumed provisional status restrictions may be masking other potential problems.
If so, when the relationship becomes a closer one or earlier when seriously planning to become, they explode for reasons few can explain.
May be my own experience, a LTR long relationship in my mature sixties would not be something younger ones may relate to.

Every relationship has different goals & purposes.

Mine works well. We knew each other for a couple years in person, dated for a year in person, and it’s been long distance for about another year. We see each other at least once a month and have a plan to move near each other in the near future. You have to be committed and have a lot of patience. Communicate regularly. Compromise. It works though. If you are serious about it.

Maybe sometimes, but it's probably not worth the effort. If you haven't spent a lot of time physically with them, then you won't really know what they're like.

They can for awhile if the two people are really committed to it and the expectations are aligned. Hard to make it last.

Depends on the people and what their needs are. Some work some end in terrible failure.

I think they usually don't but might help loneliness some during the pandemic.
