I don't believe in marriage. My parents didn't work out and neither did his. I'm happy th being with him for a long time without having that in the back of my head :)

Many marriages don't work. But about half of them do. It also provides some legal protection for children. Women are generally treated with more respect married than as a girlfriend, if not by their partner, by the world in general. Marriage solidifies a social connection. Feelings shift and change a lot over time. An official commitment creates some stability to rest on if and when things get rocky.
