I suggested to a friend of mine to try a dating site, Match.com, actually. And she found that even though all the men she chose to talk to claimed to be looking for a "long term relationship", "love of my life", "soul mate", in reality most of them wanted to "score" and move on. Of the remaining, it was obvious why they were not in long term relationships could possibly be the love of anyone's life.
However, having said that, she eventually (2 years and a dozen or more guys) did find her prince charming for a long term relationship.
I wish I knew what to tell you to filter out the assholes better, but I don't. Maybe other people here have some ideas.
