When i try and slick my hair back it wont stay up?

First of all gel is crap and no one outside the 90s should use it. Wash your hair, use a deep moisturizing mask, pre-style with Moroccan oil, then comb it back while using a blow dryer in the direction you want it to rest. When it's in place apply some separation wax or pomeade. Heat the product with the blow dryer, then turn the dryer to cool to set it. You're welcome

Could be your using too much or not enough. I feel it’s always been either one but to far into the extreme.

Don’t use the product either on wet hair unless you

Start wearing a dew rag on your head when you sleep. It's what I do to train my hair to get that look. It'll take a few days to a couple of weeks to take the effect.

Because most gels suck! Make sure to get one that says “glue” on it.
