Guys...Do You Open the Door for a Girl?

My daughter started dating this guy and after the third date she asked him why he didn't open the car door for her. He responded, "Can't you do it?" She said, "Of course I can, but it would be nice if you did." My husband always opens the door for me, runs and opens doors for other people, holds the elevator door open for people, helps them with their groceries, returns shopping carts, and other simple but kindly gestures (FYI... my daughters and I also do these things). Is it a lost thing? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but to me it's just the right thing to do.

I always open a door for a lady if she if following me through and let her go first.
But I would not open a car door as I am entering through a different door.

@Jeremazing It's kinda like - You're a guest in someone's home and you accept the offer of a drink. Your hostess says, It's in the cupboard in the kitchen.

Sure, you still get a drink, and sure, you CAN get your own drink...it's just not as hospitable.

The inconvenience is sort of the point.

Of course not. But when we get to the car at the same time, my husband will always open the door for me then go around and get in the car. But if he's like picking me up and drives up to the curb, I don't expect him to get out and open the door for me, unless my hands are full.
