Sorry to hear that. Whether he is poor or wealthy, before you marry you or both of you should meet with an estate or family law attorney and discuss the possible liabilities and best strategies. He may be trying to leave you certain assets, but you remaining single and him putting them in a will or trust might be better. It may be easier to probate or administer a single person's estate vs a married one's. IRS regs may favor you or him depending on your status.
