Why is it that when we love others, we feel the need to be in a relationship with them?

It seems selfish. Like we have a need to posses that person, and/or keep others from having them.
If we really love someone, doesn't it make more sense to let them be free to do as they please with who they please? 🤔

Because when you are in relationship, (at least if both want it)it's because they really consider special... unique... You don't need other romantic interest because there's love and you stay in that relationship because you love them and they love you. Not like a slave.
