Without knowing more details, I'm assuming this either has to do with encouraging social interaction (especially in kids who usually don't) or is meant to shield kids from rejection. The first scenario is cruel to those who are introverted. The second is just unrealistic. If this is a class where everyone must participate, then perhaps that is a different story.
@sciguy18 The teacher doesnt want anyone hurt. Well, kids get rejected, part of life..

@sciguy18 That is a good point: we need to know whether we are talking about a school dance or a dance class.
