What if your bf/gf is emotionally unstable and s/he wanted to break up with you but you don't want to?

First of all, they'd obviously be emotionally unstable if they'd want to break up with me. So I'd shackle them up in the basement.

WTF kind of serial killer question is this anyway, if someone *wants* to break up with you, they do. It's not like they need your permission, or even to tell you, unfortunately. If they do, then you can try to talk them out of it, but that's about it for what you can reasonably do.

Potentially, you could stay their friend and try to support them through their hard, but that's another question or two, don't think it works so well. "Oh you want to break up, just know I'll always be here for you" will just encourage them, be hell for you if you have any feelings, and have all the drawbacks of being a psycho stalker. Or you could threaten to kill yourself if they break up with you, which seems popular, but you're supposed to be the stable one.
