Why do people take being nice as flirting?

There’s clearly a difference, are you too desperate to be able to tell the difference?

Because a lot of people are only nice when flirting these days, and some are more subtle

I've had people think I was flirting just being friendly, it's just one of those things that happens in our society that is so badly broken
