Before I got married, I never had a relationship that lasted more than a few weeks or a very few months at most. I was never "immersed" in the relationships, even though I wanted us to be. I felt as though I had no say in the depth of the involvement. I had to take what I got and be happy, and then keep quiet and do without. I had no say in the matter.

I feel there is something about me that repulses women, but I don't know what it is. I am clean, well groomed, hard working, and polite. I don't know what to do for whatever needs to happen for a relationship to occur with a woman. I feel that I am of little or no importance importance to them.
I have never forgotten about my friends. They mean too much to me.

@Byron8by7 I'm sorry to hear that it was difficult for you. But I'm glad that you never forgot about your friends. I think that speaks very well of your character.

After my family, my friends are the most important to me; some of my friends I have known for over 40 years, and I continue to associate with them. With women, I feel that my character doesn't matter, that other men have something I do not, but I don't know what it is.

For me no,I still talk to them but maybe less I guess but still taking time to talk. When I found my best friend on EP I was Super happy but then I realised nobody is perfect n can give you all their time lol you still need your other friends on other time!!!You can't place your happiness on one person (only one Friend)that can be taken away from you too lol.But of course I let my Best Friend knows I still talk to some ppl.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@Teachocolate That's good, that you still took time to talk with your other friends, though you may not have as much time for them while you're in a new relationship.
Ramon67 · 61-69, M
I don’t ditch them but I tell them that I’ve got someone new in my life and will not spend much time with them outside of work . Unless she decides she wants to meet them
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@Ramon67 That's understandable. New relationships tend to take up a lot of a person's time. It's nice that you actually tell them that instead of just ghosting them.

My best friend is in this phase right now and it’s so annoying...
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@SW-User So how long do you expect this phase to last? Six months? Two years? The entire duration of the relationship?
SW-User
@TeresaRudolph71 I think it's worse in the beginning of the relationship, so I'd expect to get better after a few months.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@SW-User A few months? Okay. In the meantime, a lot could happen with their friends, but I guess that's not important to them, as their other friends apparently no longer exist in their world, for the time being. 🙄
Bluesky53 · 61-69, M
I've been guilty of that,
Bluesky53 · 61-69, M
@TeresaRudolph71 i guess with me,the excitement the newness of it,but it didn't last anyway,,,,,but that was my reason,
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@Bluesky53 I can understand that. For a while it's so exciting that it's all you want to think about, and then that wears off and you have to get back to your life.
Bluesky53 · 61-69, M
@TeresaRudolph71 that's it,the new wears off,
I don't know. I haven't really ever had a girlfriend yet
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@Thisthinglovesyou Well, hopefully when you do, you won't forget about your friends. Also, continue to pursue your hobbies and other interests. You'll probably find yourself spending a lot of time with her, at least in the beginning, and probably less time with your friends, but don't lose yourself by giving up your friends and your other interests so you can spend all your time with her. Continue to be the interesting person that she met and fell in love with, and allow her to do the same. That way, you'll both have more to bring to the relationship. And if that means spending a little time apart sometimes, that's actually not a bad thing. It's good to miss each other a little every now and then. You'll be that much more excited about spending time together, and this can actually extend the honeymoon period of the relationship.
Best wishes, for whenever it happens for you. ❤

Isn't that a thing we did in school?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@doodatt That's what I always thought. It seems like something that high school kids would do, not adults, and certainly not people in their 40's and older.

Balance is important.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@SW-User Yes, it is. Romantic love is important, but so is friendship.
in10RjFox · M
Yes .. and I start spending as much time writing emails or chatting .. so we get to know each other well.. and become soul mates. Other friends to me are just momentary. They are not going to travel with me in the journey of life. So I just classify them as "Acquaintance" and not really friends.
Doesn't everyone?

@TeresaRudolph71 I love that my baby has a life other than me. It's not fair to smother him.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@SW-User I agree. If you really love someone, you want them to have a full, complete life.
SW-User
@TeresaRudolph71 exactly. He knows his happiness means everything to me.
