I really don't know what's going on here

So this guy and I have been talking for a while now. We live in different states, but go to the same college. It was really great when we started talking, we talked everyday and he would always try to start a conversation or something with me. Then after a month or so he became more distant. I don't really know what happened, I thought everything was good. Now he won't talk to me unless i start the conversation. i asked him what's up, and he said that he hasn't really been talking to anyone lately, and that it's not me and I didn't do anything. I haven't talked to him in a week, i was trying to give him some space, but idk I really wanna see how he is, and make sure he hasn't forgotten about me lol. What should I do, and why is he maybe being like this?
