Island, you probably have a basic need that is not being met. I don't know your back story, but I'm thinking it's loneliness from not having a deep connection/s. This is why your mind goes off on its fantasies.

Just know that I myself talk like this to strangers –men and women – I'm just friendly, though I'm less inclined to speak with men now, since I encountered two weird guys at the store, but that's another story. Some people are just friendly and can start a conversation with anyone...as I do. It doesn't mean anything beyond that, unless there are signs of flirting.

Maybe you're right @akindheart, but when I think about doing something like that I can't help but remember hearing a couple of women say "It's getting where I can't have a simple conversation with a guy without him taking it to the bedroom"
... I'm not that guy and don't want to be either.

It's just I don't think I'm the kind of guy women are attracted to so when I get this kind of encounter and conversation it feels odd. Plus the history of people leaving me usually means my defense mechanism goes up.

Ok so here is what you do. when you run into her again, strike up a conversation. wait for her to make the next move. let it evolve slowly over something innocent like food.

@Tminus6453: Maybe I did, but I'm not one of those guys who thinks a conversation like that is a 'come on' or an invitation. Yeah maybe she wanted me to pursue it but maybe it was just a harmless conversation.
