Supermarkets have a very low moral compass

It angers me that they continue to gouge the public.
Looking at the profits over the previous four years it has remained the same, right through.
More than a billion dollars each year.
So while the public is suffering, the supermarkets are maintaining their profit margins.
Not hurting one little bit.
An item not available to make a profit on? easy, raise the price of other items.
Shame on them.

Profits over people. You can see the same thing with these gas companies/big oil. The average person gets gouged while these companies rake in record profits

@deadgerbil Exactly. There seems to be nothing any of us can do about it. Held to ransom.
The Business world is a disgrace.
Costs too much to save someone's life? Let them die.
Despicable in every sense of the word. (cowardly - vile - shameful - wretched - pitiful - outrageous - filthy - pathetic - deceitful - odious - wicked)

@Gusman it's even worse bc there are so many people, literally everyday people, who will make excuses for it. That's what these companies love to hear, that they will have an army of idiots arguing on their behalf as to why it's fine that they get to line their corporate pockets at our expense

@deadgerbil We constantly hear from people - "Without Businesses people will be worse off"
My chagrin comes from the fact that these businesses will always strive to make as much profit as possible, regardless of the hurt inflicted on the public.
There is another bug bear, people who use the share market to make their money. "Shareholders" are what supposedly drive the businesses to make more profit. "We need to keep our share holders happy". 😠

They try to blame it on shoplifting which is in part true. But they also throw a lot of perfectly good edible products away that c could be sold on a discount to help those struggling to make ends meet
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti I agree. But the (losers) people with money will buy it and brag about the deals they got.
People suck
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@LunarOrbit it;s better than throwing it away and then jacking up prices that customers will have to pay.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti Yeah. Just wish there was a better way

Welcome to capitalism.
Most of the recent price increases are just the new consolidation of Kroger, nothing else. But antitrust laws already apply. Congress isn't ready to do anything.

Our local Kroger store had to go on strike to get a livable wage.
deadgerbil · 22-25
@hunkalove I used to work for Kroger. Good products etc but the work environment sucks and they don't pay enough for the amount of work they want.
