I was betrayed by a friend.

I helped someone, whom I have known for over 50 years, with a very difficult problem.

She promised that she would not tell anyone what I did, but she drank too much and told a group of mutual friends.

Now my life is so much more difficult and complicated.

I do not know why she did now, even if she did drink too much.

She has shown true remorse.

She expressed regret at what she did, and has removed herself from my life of her own volition

I still must decide how to deal with the issue of some people knowing of my actions in helping her.
