I Was Cheated On

Once upon a time, I discovered my spouse's double life. There was no warning. People say "there are always signs," but those are only obvious in hindsight. The air gets sucked out of your lungs, and everything you know is wrong. It's so disorienting.

And then those ugly, empty words "I never meant to hurt you." Could anything more irrelevant and insultingly cliche be spoken in those moments? They turn your world upside down and then say, "Wups."

I'm often amazed how that event, years ago, still taints my current ability to trust and connect.

It is understandable that you would have trust issues after being cheated on. Why women and men do this to their partners is beyond me!!🤦‍♀️😖

@faith2hope4love I know that there is a perceived need that they feel just will not wait, but giving any thought to the effects should help them tap the brakes.

@MountainMonk89 I think it shows their complete selfishness in wanting to meet their own needs first. Not someone a person would want to be in a relationship with!!🙄

@faith2hope4love My issue was that so much of my worldview was tied to the innocence and trustworthiness of my spouse at the time that afterward nothing seemed genuine from then on.

I can understand that you would feel this way. My ex bf cheated on me for many months before I realized what was going on...I trusted him and never suspected anything. After that we try and protect our hearts from being hurt again!!😔

@faith2hope4love Yeah. I'd like to let someone in again, but it'll be an uphill battle.

@MountainMonk89 Yes, that is true. Being friends is a good place to start with no preconceived ideas or committments.....

@faith2hope4love Starting as friends is good, but making that leap where you give someone actual power to hurt you again. Whoa! That's a big leap.

@MountainMonk89 That is true...it is a big step!!🙄
A person always wonders if it will happen again...
