I am dating a teacher.

A disclaimer: I am of legal age in the US.

Why not confess your secrets to the internet?

I suppose I wanted to vent about this recent relationship I’ve involved myself in.

He is an AP Physics teacher occupying a nearby school district. Under the policy he is supposed to follow, despite me being 18, he’s technically not allowed to date a fellow student. Not sure if that applies to all surrounding districts. We met online (I won’t specify the source. Haha.)

I’d like to express a few of my worries.

I fear that the times we do occupy the public, we will likely be stared at. Despite our connection, I still feel it’ll be looked down upon. In fact, I know it will be. Haha.

I also have no clue how to explain this relationship to my mother if it were to last, or to any of my friends, as this is a touchy subject in itself. I plan on keeping this relationship hidden for as long as I possibly can. I’ve been visiting him secretly, and the thought of getting caught is mortifying. I’ve been out and about with him recently, and I still feel as if I’m doing something wrong... I can’t even bare to occupy a drive-through with him, as I also fear I’ll be seen with him and harshly judged. I can’t shake the pit that remains in my stomach, yknow?

(Please, no mean or judgmental comments! I am simply venting!)

Since you are in another district there is unlikely anything directly forbidding it. However if someone made the connection after seeing the two of you together then I could see them causing problems so I’m sure there is still risk.

Not judging in any way but kind if I ask how old he is? If he’s a new young teacher like 23 or something then people may not even give a second look when you are in public.

@ssunmhaley you’re 18 and entitled to make your own decisions. For now you might want to keep things quiet so as not to risk his career. You should be finishing in spring anyway right? After that the risk to his career should go away, but sadly judgmental people might still happen. Not much you can do about that. I have an aunt and uncle who aren’t quite that far apart, maybe 12 years, but their relationship is wonderful.
