I don’t think it’s really a man or woman thing. The worst part isn’t opening up and having it used against you. It’s opening up to someone you trusted and finding out later that half the relationship was built on lies. There’s a kind of betrayal in someone asking for your honesty while giving you none of theirs.I don’t regret opening up. I regret trusting the wrong person.

@Floki Good way of looking at it. Opening up is the bravest thing
@Floki Agree. Being lousy is not gender-specific,
Floki · M
@Mamapolo2016 exactly

I don’t think I’ve ever regretted being vulnerable with someone. I’ve regretted who I was vulnerable with. There’s a difference.
@InterdimensionalSideEye thanks for best comment🙂

Lol, of course, to my mother. I hope I finally learned to not to.
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@CrazyMusicLover Ha, my mother was too judgemental to confide in, so I never really did. It worked out for the best lol
Wireman · 31-35, M
Just remember a wife is on permanent record mode, since the time you met her.
JohnnyNoir · 61-69, M
No. It several cases I was finally able to express long held feelings to several women I was close to
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@JohnnyNoir That's nice to hear ❤
JohnnyNoir · 61-69, M
@Akimbo75 finally got the nerve to confess. Wish I had done it sooner
Ramon67 · 61-69, M
Yes I have and that’s why I am more careful nowadays .
I think it's a gamble to open up emotionally to anyone. In truth nobody should feel ashamed for doing so as long as it was appropriate given the nature of the relationship. If someone chooses to use it against you then they're the dickhead, not you. I think that you're most likely to regret it if you do it too soon, which is what I mean about being appropriate.
Yes, to my ex wife. She tried to use what I told her to ruin my life- an evil eoman.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I couldn't sit down for a week!
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@hunkalove She really had her way with you, eh?
exexec · 70-79, C
No. I have only done it with two women, my wife and one of my best friends from high school. The friend found me when I was in grad school and really needed encouragement. She was wonderful!
Nick1 · 61-69, M
When you open your heart to anyone, you are vulnerable. Just like open heart surgery. Lol
TheHammer · M
Yes . Not to women. But to one woman.
pdockal · 56-60, M
all depends on both parties involved
nevergiveup · 61-69, M
I made the mistake of trusting my manager. She gave me her word she would not tell anyone in the company. She told her husband that work in my area and he told some of his work mates. I had all the staff making comments and jokes
Shytoshow · 61-69, M
This is very true but you gotta open up even if it hurts
MarineBob · 61-69, M
Which is why I value my privacy nowadays
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
It's all gonna get weaponized against you at some point.
nd some people will take advantage of it because they can

That’s probably more like it.

I don’t easily open up about personal things to people unless I’ve spent enough time with them to know if I could.

Before I disclose anything to anyone, I ask myself: “if this person turns out to be someone who cannot be trusted later on, what would I lose by sharing this (info) to him/her?
WanderingHelplessly · 51-55, MNew
I've found it is something I avoid doing with anyone.
Horok · 31-35, M
I do regret it but it's slightly better than having no one to share it to.

There's a couple women I regret opening up to on this site. People who in retrospect didn't have my best interests at heart. Not really for gendered reasons necessarily, I feel like they were just all-around selfish people.

IRL I play my cards really close to my chest so I don't really have this problem. But that creates a rot of its own.

This was interesting to me because in my life as a woman, it was always a man who made me feel like I should have kept my emotions to myself. I've never regretted opening up to a woman.

Yeah generally when women downplay men's emotions, they're doing it to them because they're men. This is a little like a guy saying "Gee, I'm around guys all the time and they never sexually harass me, but all these women are saying they get sexually harassed." Well yeah silly, you're kinda on the other side of that dynamic.
Comment sections on TikTok are massive confirmation bias loops. You only see the people who relate. Anyone with a different perspective stays quiet because if they speak up, the validation-seeking mob will tear them apart.

Yep, men at a much younger age. It's worse with females because you want to believe in love. It's just a construct in the matrx.
