Good question. I don't really know. Things really changed.
I sure hope it always existed, but I'm afraid there's a reason there's so much domestic violence... Standards may have been lower before for starting a relationship. At the very least the standards for ending one definitely seem to be higher a few decades ago, and though there's something to say it's taken too lightly now, the bar was way too high in some cases in the past.

@Boeing probably, and to an extent that was better. I think younger generations give up too easily, but older generations leaned towards forgiving too much. Perhaps we should learn more from each other rather than only from people around our own age.
