Was the term "red flags" in relationships always relevant ?

How would you call toxic relationships and red flags in the past, before "toxic" and "red flag" became relevant?

I sure hope it always existed, but I'm afraid there's a reason there's so much domestic violence... Standards may have been lower before for starting a relationship. At the very least the standards for ending one definitely seem to be higher a few decades ago, and though there's something to say it's taken too lightly now, the bar was way too high in some cases in the past.

@NerdyPotato yes true.. but maybe we were more forgiving too? putting in more effort.. who knows

@Boeing probably, and to an extent that was better. I think younger generations give up too easily, but older generations leaned towards forgiving too much. Perhaps we should learn more from each other rather than only from people around our own age.
