Can you hear with your heart, what someone is really saying when they're in pain, or do you only see and hear their words?

The ones I know very well - I always feel their pain and hear them.

We have a responsibility of comforting, hearing them.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@scorpiolovedeep Nice. Not everyone has that skill. I agree. We do have a responsibility to make a difference.

I actually feel something at times, when it's coming from someone I care about.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Adroneandastrain That's what happens when you truly care about someone.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
I can and do at times
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@BrandNewMan It's a good skill to possess!
XxBlahxX · F
I can feel it

@XxBlahxX A good skill to have!

I know pain, so I don't brush people off when they're in pain. I can say from experience that a lot of people judge others pain and make it a point to stay away. It's inhumane how we act like we need our boundaries more than we need our communities and friends...

But, you find out who is real that way.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@EldritchFox Yes, you do. People who know you and truly care for you, listen with not only their ears, but with their hearts as well. Emotionally immature or the outright selfish, don't know how to do that.
I hear with my mind
My heart gets me in trouble
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@cherny Yeah. I understand that, too. It can be a double-edged sword.
Most of the time, I see and hear more in my spirit than I’d ever choose to. 😞
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Unefilletrescurieuse I understand - exactly - what you mean.
I feel it before the mind could confirm it.

For those who are very close to me, I’d even know where they have physical health challenges (especially when in pain).

I could also sense when something is troubling them emotionally.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@CookieCrumbs Being so in tune can be a difficilt path after a while. It can become a drain on one's own emotional health if you don't have a good buffer.
@LadyBronte
It could be. So I learned to tune out everything else except when it should matter to me ( when parents are sick).

This is one of the reasons I don’t attend a wake on the first day, or funerals. I visit on the other available days to express support for the families.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@CookieCrumbs We all have to find what works for us. Good for you for figuring out at least part of it!
Mindful · 56-60, F
I hear and feel deeply. Unfortunately If my diabetic sugar level is way off my sensory level may be off center too :-(
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Mindful The physiological can indeed interfere with our emotional norms.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
I can hear the pain in someone and everything underneath. ☺
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Zonuss It is a great skill to possess!

I am an empathetic person, but I don't believe I can read anyone it's mind or feel exactly what they feel.
However, I do feel with them, but I just don't believe someone can feel exactly the way I feel nor can I feel exactly the way they feel we have similar feelings perhaps due to similar circumstances.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Justmeraeagain I agree. Empathy doesn't lead to mind reading abilities. I think some people are more sensitive to what others are feeling. I also think part of differentiating between the words being said and the unspoken words someone can't say, is the ability to look beyond the surface, understand the motivation, and genuinely care about the person. Love can open the eyes as well as the heart.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
When I have a close connection with a person yes I can tell when they are down or hurting without them saying
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Gibbon That's as it should be, then.
exexec · 70-79, C
I have training and experience in counseling that helps me see beyond what someone is saying with their words. I'm sure I still miss a lot.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@exexec We probably all do, I think.
Ontheroad · M
I think the "noise" of all that inundates every moment of life sometimes prevents hearing. We listen or notice but we don't hear and see.

That and when we listen we are always ready to give our opinion or offer up our fix, but not hear what is really being said.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Ontheroad This I agree with...too many people are too busy formulating what they want to say, to even listen to the words being said, let alone what they don't say.
I hear it all - but most people don't like that, so I keep it to myself 99% of the time now.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Magicianzini Some do get defensive - I'll give you that.
