Tonight, my wife told me that we are not getting back together and just wants to be friends.

I guess I still had a flicker of hope inside, but it was dimming as each day went by. It's been almost eight months since she left, but I am ready for change. I will be just fine.

You are strong you will be fine. I hope that at the same time that you were preparing yourself for this. Don't ever put all your cards in one basket. Want to live with her in your life but also be prepared to live without her.
