A Beautiful Vacation...A Much Needed Reset

It's been over a week since I returned from a beautiful trip out west with my girlfriend, with whom I'd just patched things up. The trip, that was LARGELY orchestrated by her, was centered around exploring Roadside Americana all over the Lincoln Highway, the very first highway in the country before Eisenhower ordered the construction of the Interstate system. The Lincoln Highway, believe it or not, starts in Times Square in New York City (there's a marker, you simply need to spot it), and ends in California.

Without giving away too much of where we were for the sake of continued anonymity, what I will say is that everything was so calming in comparison to where we both individually live. On the Lincoln Highway, 3 cars on the road literally equates to too much traffic! The personalities were a major breath of fresh air. The places we explored? I'll never forget them.

But what's most important is this, not once did we get into a fight or an argument. It was the happiest she and I had been together in a very long time. During the phone call in which she and I patched things up between us, she told me she wanted to reduce our time together because among other things, she needed to get the ball rolling with preparations to retire (yeah, she's older than I am, and I have zero regrets). I already implemented that with her this past weekend. And I'm going to do that again this weekend.

I'm wondering if in the end, this will make her miss me more. Someone else warned me that her now-ex did this to her a year ago for somewhat different reasons, and now they no longer even speak. But I won't dwell on "what if's". I'll just dream about the day we go back because to be frank, I really didn't want to come home.
